Well hello there!
As soon as the ice melts, salty seas, baby whales, butterflies and Hummingbirds all call me up to play. Summer Fun has always been about nature for me, with so many challenges, it can be overwhelming finding ways to help our poor planet. But here are a few things that are simple and fun. Be creative, safe and fulfilled Dawn Carroll.
Plastic free- This is not easy, but just forbid plastic to enter your house. You have the buying power it is insane how much plastic continues to live on the supermarket shelves- Write all your favorite companies and plead for change. Recycling doesn’t work.
Take on one cause (it gets addicting) before you know it you will have many… because its all connected.
Native Plant Garden PLANTING
Plant Native for butterflies, Hummingbirds, and Pollinators. BUT we have to plant the RIGHT STUFF! The more you know the more you grow! A message from Native Plant Trust: https://www.nativeplanttrust.org
“Many, but not all, of our plants, start from seeds that our staff and volunteers harvest sustainably in the wild throughout the region. All the plants we sell are grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, so they will delight your eye and support the birds and bees that keep the rest of life humming.
In line with Native Plant Trust’s mission to support biologically diverse landscapes, we aim to increase the proportion of species-type, seed-grown plants available for sale. Seed collection and germination rates determine availability, and we have increased our seed-collecting effort. You can expect our list to include an ever-increasing selection of genetically diverse New England natives that will enhance resilience and create wildlife habitat throughout the region.”
Adopt A Whale – Everyone Needs Their Very Own Whale
A message from Ocean Alliance – Whale Research & Conservation: Why symbolically adopt a whale? Not only do you get to feel a connection to the animal, but you are also directly funding their protection and research. When you adopt a whale from Ocean Alliance, you are funding our mission, and helping to protect a species that you love. Here is our adoption page: https://whale.org/adopt-a-whale
Organize A Group To Write Letters – Make This A Family Or School Activity
We can get the attention of legislators who create marine policy by writing letters, and if there are enough, their attention will be turned in our direction. The more people who write, the better, so get as many people as you can to voice their concerns regarding whale protection. Here are some topics you can focus on:
- Support marine mammal protected areas
- Support the Marine Mammal Protection Act
- Support the Save Right Whales Act
- Support whale safe fishing techniques
- Oppose cetacean captivity
Support Whale Conservation Groups
Give support to whale conservation groups like Ocean Alliance by donating or volunteering remotely. Here is an example of a virtual research projects you can help with: https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/cetalingua/dolphin-chat
It took me 60 years to pull a dream like this one together! Songs for Mary is about saving many things. History , a legacy, a stunning home, humanity and human rights, it saved me during COVID. Musically we told the story about how one person did so many things for all of us. Time and History forgot about this lady who shattered the glass ceiling before anyone knew there was one. A woman who refused to let the color of her skin stop her from making the world a kinder better & more beautiful place.
The music should be live any day now- till then join our UTUBE where we are adding all the videos https://www.youtube.com/@songs4mary
Each song is about an Iconic figure and their efforts to stop cruelty in our world. I hope this inspires you and yours to tackle something that you know is not right. www.songsformary.com
